Biography

David Ross Thompson was born February 4th, 1956 in Takoma Park, Maryland, the seventh of eight children. Both his maternal grand mother and mother were artists. Exposed to art from the very beginning Mr. Thompson knew at a very early age what he wanted to do with his life. While largely self taught he attended school at the Maryland School of Art and Design in Silver Spring, Md. and several schools in California. However, it wasn't until taking color theory classes in Annapolis in 1986 that he found the direction that he needed. " I want primarily to use color and composition to offer a personal vision of everyday life. I find a beauty and spirit in even the most mundane and everyday objects." Mr. Thompson currently lives in Baltimore with his wife and two daughters where he finds most of his inspiration.

I've recently found myself concentrating on texture as a subject. I'm fascinated by the passage of time and how that leaves it's mark on every day objects that most people pass by. Whether it's the nicks and scrapes on a retaining wall of the Jones Falls or cracks in concrete in my own back yard all of them leave a record. My paintings record that passage in a way that while appearing abstract are in fact a realistic portrayal of time leaving it's mark.
